Cobb & Co – Whakatane

Cobb & Co – Whakatane

Cobb & Co. is undoubtedly New Zealand’s favourite family restaurant. If you grew up in New Zealand in the 1980s you’re bound to have fond childhood memories of eating Cobb crunchies, slurping on pink panthers, and trying to solve the puzzles on the back of your placemat with a little red pencil.

The great news is Cobb & Co. is making a comeback, with new restaurants opening up right across the country. You’ll currently find them in Tauranga, Whakatane, Rotorua, Taupo, New Plymouth, Levin, Dunedin and Invercargill, while Christchurch is due to open in early 2018.

So why do so many Kiwis love Cobb & Co.?

Because it’s the ideal place for family and friends to gather – for birthday celebrations, dinners with grandparents, or for large groups with lot of kids in tow. The restaurant’s relaxed atmosphere and super friendly service mean everyone can unwind and enjoy a delicious meal at an affordable price.

The kids menu is helpfully divided into three age groups to reflect different appetites and portion sizes. The tots (1-3 years), kids (4-10 years) and teen (11-14 years ) menus all include a bowl of famous Cobb crunchies to start, a main, and a dessert. Each meal is presented with age-appropriate flair, including fun desserts shaped like bumble bees, crocodiles and caterpillars.

A Cobb & Co. highlight has always been the kids’ cocktail menu. Four choices are available (traffic light, pink panther, jaffa and green slime) and these drinks come adorned with elaborate straws and animal-shaped souvenirs that your children will love.

Each Cobb & Co. restaurant provides a children’s play area featuring toys, Play Stations and fish tanks to keep young ones entertained, giving parents the chance to relax, talk and eat in peace.

The adult menu features a wide variety of mains including burgers, salads, pastas, Angus Pure steak (cooked exactly to your liking on the grill), and traditional favourites like beer battered fish & chips, roast of the day, lamb shanks and ribs.

The meals are well priced and portions are always generous. Gluten-free options are clearly marked, while ‘Cobb Favourite’ and ‘Big Feed’ labels can help guide your choice if you’re feeling ravenous.

Grandparents are well-catered for too with a Senior Gold Card menu

Cobb & Co. is also famous for its warm and comfortable surroundings. New Zealand’s oldest restaurant chain is named after Freeman Cobb who ran a thriving stagecoach business during Otago’s gold rush in the 1860s. The entrance to each restaurant features Cobb & Co.’s iconic red saloon doors, and nods to its stagecoach past adorn the walls and table placemats.

Don’t forget to join the Little Cobbers Kids Club for special offers, updates and birthday giveaways including a free meal when you book your birthday celebration at Cobb & Co.

If you’re looking for a restaurant that will put a smile on everyone’s face, no matter how old they are, Cobb & Co. is definitely the place to go.
